While funding amounts vary by city, programs typically cover one or more of the following three flood protection upgrades:

Toronto’s basement flooding protection subsidy program can provide up to $6,650 for flood prevention systems.

Peel Region Rebates
Brampton and Caledon residents can claim up to $1,500 for backwater valve installations.
Mississauga residents can receive up to a combined $7,500 for sump pump installations and weeping tile capping, as well as the Peel Region backwater valve rebate of up to $1,500.

Eligibility Requirements

- Located in Peel Region (Mississauga rebates are only applicable within city limits)

- Building permits obtained prior to work
- No previous backwater valve rebate from Peel Region and the valve must pass inspection
- No previous sump pump rebate within the last 10 years
- Downspouts must be disconnected from the sewer system (or have a signed waiver)
Halton Region Waterproofing Rebates
Halton Region offers one of Ontario’s largest basement flooding prevention subsidy programs with a combined amount of up to $8,175. Among the cities included in this regional rebate are Oakville, Burlington, and Milton.

Hamilton offers a Protective Plumbing Program (3P) with financial assistance of up to $2,000 for backwater valves and sump pumps. The full $2,000 is only available when you use a City of Hamilton pre-approved contractor. Otherwise, funding is limited to $500.
A low-interest loan of up to $2,000 is also available for costs exceeding the original $2,000.
